Madras ENT Research Foundation Charitable Trust

Madras ENT Research Foundation, being a world class tertiary referral center has felt the need to make its services available to the economically deprived sections of the society.
Madras ENT Research Foundation Charitable Trust was formed with the idea of rendering yeoman service to the people below poverty line. Many major surgeries and life saving surgeries have been done under the patronage of this trust. This has been possible due to the contributions from our well wishers, philanthropists and patients. Contributions to this Charitable Trust are exempt from income tax under section 80 G.

Prof. Mohan Kameswaran
Prof. Mohan Kameswaran, President of the Charitable Trust is a leading ENT Surgeon in India and a recipient of the "PADMA SHRI" from the Governent of India in 2006. Dr. Mohan Kameswaran is one of the key figures in revolutionizing social awareness towards deafness in India. For his contribution in the field of ENT and the Hearing Handicapped he was conferred "INDO-AUSTRALIAN AWARD FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE' by Indo-Australian Association, Chennai. He was honored by His Excellency, President of Srilanka for 'PIONEERING THE COCHLEAR IMPLANT PROGRAM IN SRILANKA' and 'AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE' was given by His Excellency, The Governor of Kerala. He was also conferred 'FOR THE SAKE OF HONOUR AWARD' by Rotary Club of Madras Esplanade, Chennai.
Every year, Madras ENT Research Foundation Charitable Trust (MERFCT) which is attached to MERF, carries out community related service activities, free camps, free surgeries, distribution of hearing aids free of cost, health education to the masses, training workshops for ENT specialists, training consultants and post graduate doctors both from within India and abroad as part of the activities of the Trust.

Mrs. Indira M Kameswaran
Mrs. Indira M. Kameswaran is the secretary of MERF Charitable Trust, which sponsors free treatment for needy and indigent patients. Through her activity at the Hospital and Institute, she organizes free treatment and therapies for patients from Down's Syndrome Association of Tamilnadu, Spastic Society of India, Institute of Child Health & Hospital for Children, Andhra Mahila Sabha- Iswari Prasad Dattatreya Orthopaedic Centre & Jain Association, to name a few. She also looks into the conduct of free camps & community related social service activities.

Prof. S. Kameswaran
Prof. S. Kameswaran is one of the senior most ENT surgeons in India and a recipient of the prestigious  PADMA SHRI  award from the Government of India in 1991 and the B.C.Roy award for his contribution to his specialty. Most of the present generation ENT surgeons have trained under him. A keen teacher and guide he held many an academic post and has the honour of developing the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology at Madras Medical College where he was the longest serving Director. He also has the distinction of being the first Ph.D holder in ENT in India and also received a Doctorate of Science (DSc) Honoris Causa given by the Dr.MGR Medical University in recognition of his long years of research and original contributions.
       

Dr. Niranjan Kameswaran
Dr. Niranjan Kameswaran is presently Manager of Commercial and Business Development at Civitas Therapeutics, an early-stage biotechnology company in Boston developing breakthrough therapies in Parkinson's disease and other therapeutic areas. Niranjan joined Civitas from GfK Bridgehead (New York), a boutique health care strategy consulting firm with a focus on market access and reimbursement strategy considerations for pharma/biotech and medical device firms. Prior to joining GfK Bridgehead, Niranjan completed his doctoral research in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania where he developed techniques for repairing peripheral nerve damage and restoring function. Niranjan also has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and did his undergraduate training in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Anna University, Chennai.
 
 

Ms.Vasumathi Kameswaran
Dr. Vasumathi Kameswaran has completed her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Pennsylvannia, USA on the Genetic basis of Type 2 diabetic Mellitus.
Prior to that, she completed her Masters from the University of Pennsylvannia and B.Tech in Biotechnology from St. Joseph’s college of Engineering, Chennai.
She is committed to an academic career and is currently continuing Post Doctoral research in Cell Biology. She has published extensively and her publication in Cell Metabolism has been cited as one of the 10 most influential papers in the field this decade. She has also won the best poster award in the International conference on Cell Biology in Jerusalem, Israel in 2015.
